Santa Coloma de Farners is known for being the capital of the region of la Selva, for being the birthplace of Salvador Espriu and the place where the poet Joan Vinyoli spent his summers. It is also prestigious due to its thermal waters, biscuits and much more.
However, in the last few years, thanks to the great impulse of a group of young people (and others who are not so young), the town has consolidated itself as the capital of ratafia. Although it is not a ratafia producing town, it is the place where this drink enjoys its most significant celebration: the Ratafia Festival, and some of its most ancient recipes.
Each year, during the second weekend in November, the town, as well as the aguardiente with green nuts, becomes colourful and the smell of this traditional herbal liqueur fills the air. This festival is very much appreciated locally, as there is a great sense of ownership and uniqueness. This is what makes the town stand out from other towns and villages. Nobody lives ratafia like the locals of Santa Coloma de Farners.
The friends of the Confraria de la Ratafia (Guild of Ratafia), and the Santa Coloma de Farners Town Council, organise this festival. They never stop, and this year they anticipate many acts to choose from, suitable for all ages: young, medium and vintage.
Here is the schedule for this edition, and here a great video of the 36th edition. Without a doubt, you will find an option to your liking. And if not, come anyway and the locals will try to prepare you a tailored option and we will show you, with a great deal of pride, what we like the most.
We will be waiting for you!
