Santa Coloma has been a reference for sardana dancing for a long time, and has produced many cobles, some of which remain active to the present day, and composers. The town was proclaimed Ciutat Pubilla de la Sardana in 1981 (meaning that the town is recognised for the tradition of sardana dancing).
Every year, on the final Sunday of April, Santa Coloma celebrates their Sardana Aplec (a gathering where sardana dancers and fans come together to dance and celebrate this cultural tradition) in the magnificent Sant Salvador Park, a place where many locals walk and relax, and where many walking, cycling and mountain biking trails start. However, at the end of April, the park becomes the setting for an Aplec that brings together many sardana dancing fans who meet to dance and listen to the cobla bands playing.
